Tour of Elk Grove Village report by Cory Hickman 08-03-2008

Tour of Elk Grove Elite 1/2, Stage 1.

Perhaps being an only child is a life sentence for being high maintenance. Like, always wanting to be the best, most, or the most chocolate cake. Whatever. It has come to my attention that maybe I have lost perspective of my skillz/accomplishments. My coach said to me after the race yesterday "...now I don't want to hear any negative sh^% ! Have you looked at your season?!" Or my Wonderful Wife, Mary saying, "look at how you raced, its not just the result you know?". OR, Mr and Mrs Welch looking at me as if to say, "we will burn you with an Argon LASER if you don't shut up."

Look, you had to be there. Point being that it is important to occasionally look back at ones accomplishments, failures, lessons learned to really appreciate the big picture. I was pouting about not getting the top ten I wanted. Really, who cares? I should be most excited about the fact that I did not get taken down in the crash yesterday where two of my competitors were FIGHTING! No further comment on that one. Or how about that sometimes you can have a bad day. I tried but did not reach the days' goal, and lost track of the fact that this is supposed to be fun. I got 27th, 101 starters, 55 finishers. Today (Stage 2) will be fun. End of story.

Thanks to my awesome teammates, family and friends who continue to support me.
