Twas the night before Glencoe and all through the town Not a racer wasn't thinking about wearing the crown. The tubies were pumped and prepped with care, While thoughts of victory floated through the air.
The weather was cool and the town was about, All the stops the promoters had pulled out. From announcing to safety to marshals around, A more fun day could hardly be found.
The field was composed of a familiar crew, Really by August there few who are new. vitaminwater-Trek was the dominant force, But with six guys starting we knew this of course.
The race was strung out and really quite fast, With a smooth course and a hungry cast. Vitaminwater-Trek attacked and attacked, and attacked again when those were brought back.
Eric got frisky and shot off the front, Around he went with the field on the hunt. As he was caught Jason K. took a turn, We came to race, with matches to burn.
The field chased and chased some more, But another was ready, knocking at the door. The secret to keeping up such a pace, An cold Half Acre beer waiting for after the race.
And so we went around and around, Not Superweek no one hit the ground. Primes came and went, sprint points as well, And we all gave it hell when we heard that bell.
When out of the field there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the pack to see what was the matter. Away to the front I flew like a flash, Tore open the courage and was off in a dash.
A rider from Vision Quest had attacked, and one from Waste Management had me on his back. We huffed and puffed and pushed real hard, Was this the move, had I played the right card?
Together we motored around and around, Taking strong pulls and not making a sound. We all knew what lay ahead, Succeed in the breakaway or wind up dead.
The threw us primes to disrupt our flow, But we were cooperating little did they know. I will say that one was quite grand, I walked away with a Starbucks bag in hand.
Eight laps then seven, six down to five, Were we going to make it, was this break alive? We couldn't play possum for it was too soon, If we started it now this would be our ruin.
vitaminwater-Trek owned the field, If someone jumped they were told to heel. Andreas won the sprint competition, The guy's a threat, let that be a lesson.
We rounded the bend and saw three to go, And started eying each other to and fro. We had not yet won so to the front I went, A whole lot of energy pulling I spent.
Toward the very last corner VQ attacked, Too bad for him the attack fell flat. Around the corner together we came, Soon oh so soon would be the end of the game.
Waste Management jumped at 50 to go, I took off too and started sprinting with a heave and a ho. Neck and neck we came to the line, Down to a bike throw, could it be mine?
Two-hundredthes of a second, by that much I lost Was pulling so hard the ultimate cost? But second place out of a break ain't so bad, A long time it's been since this much fun I've had.
A big thanks I'll send to all, For the Glencoe Grand Prix was trully a ball. Next year you can bet I'll return, But for now sprint practice until I learn!
